Origin and history

The house of Loupian, dated the 4th quarter of the 15th century and the 1st quarter of the 16th century, is a preserved testimony of the domestic architecture of this time. Unlike many other houses in the village, which have been transformed over the centuries, it has retained its original characteristics, including a door window, a typical architectural element of the period.

The village of Loupian once had a large number of 16th-century houses, now missing or profoundly altered. This house, classified as Historic Monument, is distinguished by its intact condition. Its facades and roofs were protected by a registration order in 1976, highlighting its heritage importance.

Located at 5 rue de la Brèche and rue des Remparts, this house illustrates the lifestyle and construction techniques of the late Middle Ages in Languedoc. Its location, close to the old walls of the village, suggests a role in the medieval urban organization, although the sources do not specify its exact use at the time.
