Origin and history
The house of Richelieu is part of an ambitious urban project initiated by Cardinal Richelieu. Born in this village, he decided to transform it into a model city, entrusting the plans to architect Jacques Lemercier, known for his work at the castle. The geometric line includes ditches, ramparts, monumental gates and symmetrical streets, reflecting the classical ideals of the era.
The houses, aligned according to this rigorous plan, were designed to harmonize the architectural ensemble. The 25 Place des Religieuses, protected since 1932 for its facade and roof, illustrates this 17th century civil heritage. His inscription in the title of Historical Monuments highlights his role in the urban heritage of Richelieu, an emblematic city of French classicism.
The exact location, although documented (address and Insee code 37196) remains approximate in terms of map accuracy according to available sources.
