Origin and history

La Maison La Vanaude is an emblematic urban residence located in Annonay, in the Ardèche department, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Built between 1930 and 1932, it embodies the architectural style of the early twentieth century, mixing modernity and luxurious materials such as Carrara marble and Macassar ebony. Its suspended staircase, veneered doors and glass brick bays testify to a desire for ostentation characteristic of the time.

The house was sponsored by Lucien Collard, a local industrialist associated with milling and weaving plants, a thriving economic sector in the region. Designed by the Annonean architects Hugues Gosselin and Maurice Frappa, it reflects the social prestige of its owner. The interior spaces, such as the living room or the bathroom, retain their original décor, offering an intact testimony of the bourgeois art of living of the 1930s.

Classified as a historic monument by order of 9 September 2009, La Vanaude House is now fully protected, including its decorative elements. Its inscription underlines its heritage importance, both for its architecture and for its connection to the industrial history of Annonay. The accuracy of its location (33 avenue Marc-Seguin) and its partial opening to the public make it a site accessible to lovers of history and architecture.
