Origin and history
Laporte House, listed as a Historic Monument, has its origins in the 14th century, as evidenced by its architectural features. Its facade on Rue Saint-Jean rests on four broken arches with unequal harps, typical of this period. Only the arch of the door, with narrower clasps and a seminal key, differs slightly, while its trite vantals have been preserved. A banner clearly separates the ground floor from the first floor, highlighting the medieval structure.
In the 16th century, a window was added to the building, marking the only notable modification identified. The elements protected by the Order of October 25, 1965 include this façade and its corresponding roof, reflecting the heritage importance of the building. The absence of a chamfer on the arch frames and the irregular arrangement of the harps provide valuable clues on local construction techniques.
Located at 32 rue Saint-Jean, Laporte is part of the dense urban fabric of Villefranche-de-Conflent, fortified town of the Pyrénées-Orientales. Its civil architecture, though modest, illustrates the evolution of dwellings between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance in this border region between France and Catalonia. The accuracy of its location remains estimated as "passible" (level 5/10), based on available data.
