Fronts and roofs: inscription by decree of 5 September 1946
Origin and history
The house Le Touron, located in Domme in Dordogne, is a large house built in the 18th century. This monument illustrates the civil architecture of the time in the area, with a central house body flanked by two wings on the entrance. Its style reflects the aesthetic and functional codes of bourgeois or notable houses of this period, adapted to the local context.
Ranked among the Historical Monuments, Le Touron House saw its facades and roofs protected by an inscription order in 1946. This protection reflects its heritage importance, both for its architecture and for its role in the urban history of Domme. The house is now owned by the municipality, although its current use (visits, rental, guest rooms) is not specified in the available sources.
The location of the house, at 183 Le Capiol in Domme, places this monument in a rich historical setting, that of a medieval bastide which became a popular residence in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The houses of this time, like Le Touron, were often a reflection of the social status of their owners, while integrating into the existing urban fabric. Their preservation allows us to understand the architectural and social evolution of the region.
