Façades et Roofs sur rue et sur Cour (cad. G 906) : inscription by decree of 30 July 1963

Origin and history

The house at 6 rue Basse-Saint-Pierre in Saumur is a typical 17th-century building characterized by elegant and functional architecture. It is distinguished by two hors-oeuvre turrets built on a trompe, as well as a stair tower with panels, architectural elements emblematic of this period. These details reflect the influence of late Renaissance and early classical styles, while integrating local construction techniques.

The entrance gate, added in the 18th century, presents an arch in basket handle, an ornamental style common during the reign of Louis XV. This mixture of periods illustrates the aesthetic and technical changes that occurred between the 17th and 18th centuries. The house, whose facades and roofs on street and courtyard have been protected since 1963, bears witness to the historic importance of bourgeois houses in the historic centre of Saumur.

Classified as a Historical Monument by order of 30 July 1963, this house now belongs to a private company. Its state of conservation and architectural elements make it a representative example of the civil heritage of the Pays de la Loire region. Although its current use (visit, rental, guest rooms) is not specified, its location in the city centre and its style make it a point of interest for the urban history of Saumur.
