Facades and roofs: inscription by decree of 13 April 1944
Origin and history
The house at 5-7 rue Sainte-Catherine in Nancy is a 18th-century civil building. It was classified as a Historic Monument for its facades and roofs, protected by ministerial decree in 1944. This building reflects the architectural style typical of Lorraine under the Ancien Régime, marked by increasing urbanization and the influence of local elites.
At that time Nancy was a major cultural and political centre of the Duchy of Lorraine, integrated into the Kingdom of France in 1766. Bourgeois houses, like this one, served as residences for wealthy families or prosperous artisans. Their preservation today bears witness to the urban and social evolution of the city, between medieval heritage and pre-revolutionary modernization.
