Facade and roof on street (Box BS 40): inscription by order of 4 May 1994

Key figures

César Pain - Architect and surveyor Home designer, signature 1909.
Georges Janin - Master glass Author of the original window.

Origin and history

This report house built in 1909 in Nancy illustrates the influence of the École de Nancy, an artistic movement emblematic of Art Nouveau in Lorraine. Its architect, César Pain (1872-1946), a Nemandian meter-verifier, signed a ceramic panel to the right of the entrance door. The glass window, the work of master glassmaker Georges Janin (1884-1955), bears witness to the local know-how and organic aesthetics dear to this artistic current.

The facade and the roof on the street, protected by a decree of inscription of 4 May 1994, reflect the decorative principles of the era, blending traditional materials and motifs inspired by nature. The original fence wall partially disappeared to give way to a modern access to a garage in the basement, revealing a subsequent adaptation to contemporary needs.

Located at 24 Félix-Faure Street, this achievement is part of the architectural heritage of the country, marked by a period of industrial and artistic prosperity at the turn of the 20th century. Its style and decorative details make it an example of the bourgeois dwellings of the period, designed to combine functionality and aesthetics.
