Origin and history
The house at 26 Félix-Faure Street in Nancy is an example of Art Nouveau architecture influenced by the Nancy School, an emblematic artistic movement of the region at the beginning of the 20th century. Built in 1907 by César Pain, a Nemandian meter-verifier, it has a signature and date on a ceramic panel between the door and the window on the first floor. Its painted decoration of the second level, which is now largely erased, reflected the refined aesthetics of the time.
Classified Historic Monument by order of 4 May 1994, this report house is distinguished by its facade and roof on street, protected for their heritage value. The building illustrates the local know-how and sustainable influence of the Nancy School, while reflecting the constructive and decorative techniques of the first quarter of the 20th century. His architect, Caesar Pain, left a personal imprint, visible through the ceramic details and traces of painted decorations.
The location of the house, in the central area of Nancy, highlights its integration into an urban fabric marked by the architectural eclecticism of the Belle Époque. Although its present state shows signs of wear and tear, including partial erasure of paintings, it remains a valuable testimony to the artistic and social history of the city. The GPS coordinates and exact address (24 or 26 Félix-Faure Street) reveal a slight geographical uncertainty, noted as "passable" in heritage databases.
