Façades on the Rue de la Paix and the Grand'Rue and roofs (Box AV 13): inscription by decree of 20 March 1934

Origin and history

The house on 1 Peace Street in Hennebont, Morbihan, is an example of 17th century civil architecture. It is characterized by a mixed ground floor in stone and wood, while the floor, in a strip of wood, rests on solid crowlets. A second corbellation supports the peak, illustrating the constructive techniques of the time.

Classified as a Historic Monument, this house saw its facades on Rue de la Paix and Grand'Rue, as well as its roofs, protected by decree of 20 March 1934. This type of construction reflects the urbanization of Breton towns in the 17th century, where wood and stone coexisted to meet residential and artisanal needs.

The location of the house, in the heart of Hennebont, a city marked by its medieval history and commercial role, suggests a function both habitative and potentially linked to the commercial activities of the city. The wood-paned houses, frequent in Brittany, bear witness to an architectural tradition adapted to the local resources and urban constraints of the period.
