Origin and history

The Port Louis House, built in 1616, is a remarkable example of Breton civil architecture from the early seventeenth century. Sponsored by Louis and Yves Le Lozrec, trustees of the city, it is distinguished by its ground floor and granite floor, as well as irregular bays. The front door, in basket cove with braid, and the tower of staircase with screws (round inside, square outside) illustrate the persistence of Gothic traditions at that time.

The building reflects the Port Louis before its transformation into a royal city, with marked local architectural features. The stair turret, pierced by three floors of bays in basket handle, is an emblematic element. Classified as a Historical Monument in 1945 (facade, roof and turret), this house bears witness to the urban and social history of Brittany in the 17th century.

The location, at the 6 Petite-Rue, and its state of conservation make it a heritage representative of the bourgeois habitat of the time. Materials (granit) and construction techniques (regular apparatus) highlight the know-how of local artisans. The listing of Historic Monuments in 1945 allowed its preservation, despite the subsequent transformations of the city.
