Origin and history
The house, located at 23 rue Saint-Guenhaël in Vannes, is a 15th century woodwork construction built on a stone base. It is distinguished by its L-plan, probably resulting from a posterior enlargement, and its corbellation marked on the first floor. The wooden screw staircase, partially preserved, bears witness to subsequent architectural changes, notably in the lateral corridor and access to the floors.
Mentioned in the annuitant of 1455 and the archives of the reformation of the estate of 1677, this house then belonged to Louis Leclerc, Sieur de Kergolher. Its basement houses a fountain pierced in the south wall, potentially dated the twelfth century according to historian Thomas-Lacroix, suggesting an earlier occupation of the site. The 17th century chimney, covered with woodwork, could mask an older granite structure.
Classified as a Historic Monument in 1933 for its facade and roof, this house illustrates the evolution of the urban habitat of valvery, mixing medieval elements (pan of wood, spiral staircase) and transformations of modern times. Its later enlargement integrated the primitive fountain, initially accessible from a extinct venom linking the streets of the Bienfaisance and the Mint.
