Origin and history

The house of Vittersburg, located on 3 rue de la Fontaine, is a typical example of the rural habitat of Lorraine of the 18th and 19th centuries. Originally built as a farm in the 18th century, it still retains today the pan-wood characteristic of the second level of its home. This type of construction reflects the traditional techniques of the region, adapted to the local resources and agricultural needs of the time.

In 1826, a date engraved on the lintel of the carriageway door, the farm underwent major changes. These transformations mark an evolution in its agricultural use, with in particular the re-perceivement of the first level of the house. This change could be consistent with modernization of agricultural practices or adaptation to the economic needs of the farm. The house, partially protected since 1992, thus bears witness to the architectural and functional evolution of the Lorraine farms between the Ancien Régime and the 19th century.

The building was listed in the Historic Monuments Inventory by order of December 14, 1992, recognizing its heritage value. This protection specifically concerns the house itself, identified under cadastral reference 1 8. The precise location, although considered "a priori satisfactory" (level 6 out of 10), makes it possible to clearly identify the building in the urban fabric of Vittersburg, commune of the Moselle department in the Grand Est region.
