Origin and history

The home of Eugene Delacroix, located at 29-31 rue du Maréchal-Leclerc in Saint-Maurice (Val-de-Marne), dates back to the 1670s. This building, representative of civil architecture of the 3rd quarter of the 17th and 18th centuries, has been partially renovated over the centuries. It is best known as the birthplace of painter Eugène Delacroix (1798-1863), a major figure in French romanticism.

The house was listed in the inventory of historical monuments by order of 24 October 1973, specifically protecting its facades and roofs, including those of the building in return for the courtyard. In 1988, it was transformed into a municipal building and has been housed in the media library of Saint-Maurice, thus offering a new cultural use to this historical heritage.

Available sources, including Wikipedia and the Merimée database, confirm its exact address and legal status. The building illustrates both the local history of Saint-Maurice and the link between architectural heritage and national artistic memory, through the figure of Eugene Delacroix. Its state of conservation and location (please note 6/10) make it an accessible site, although not explicitly open to specific tourist visits.
