Origin and history

The home of Déodat de Séverac, located in Saint-Félix-Lauragais, is an 18th-century building, with older features reused and 19th-century modifications. It was acquired in 1842 by Gilbert de Séverac, a renowned painter (1834-1897), who installed his workshop there and added a window. The house, set in Italian style, features a loggia inspired by Tuscan architecture, which serves the entire floor. Inside, the rooms kept their original furniture, offering an intact testimony of the time.

Déodat de Séverac (1873-1921), a French composer and son of Gilbert, was born in this house. The building, marked by the artistic history of the family, was inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of 17 September 1990. The structure reflects both the architectural heritage of the eighteenth century and the adaptations related to the creative life of the Séverac, including the painter's workshop and his Tuscan influence.

The location of the house, at 46 Rue Déodat de Séverac, is documented in the Mérimée base under the code Insee 31478, in the department of Haute-Garonne. Although its access to the public is not specified, its status as a historical monument makes it an emblematic place of the Lauragese heritage, linked to both local history and French musical culture.
