Origin and history
The noble house of Taillefer, located in Tizac-de-Lapouyade in New Aquitaine, is a historical monument dating back to the second half of the 16th century. It initially consists of a quadrangular house reinforced with two towers: one round, the other hexagonal housing a spiral staircase, all pierced by murderers. This defensive system is a testament to its strong home status, typical of noble residences of the time, designed to combine habitat and protection.
In the 18th century, the estate enriched with a residential wing erected in 1795, marking a shift towards more residential and less military use. This extension was then extended in 1884, reflecting architectural adaptations related to the needs of the owners and styles of each era. The site also includes agricultural outbuildings (moulin, dovecote, oven, cellar, cuvier), illustrating its central role in the exploitation of the surrounding territory.
Ranked among the Historical Monuments since 2008 for its façades and roofs of the 16th century house, the noble house of Taillefer is today a private property. Its original plan, combining defensive elements and living spaces, offers a remarkable example of rural noble architecture in Gironde, between medieval heritage and modern transformations.
