The facades and roofs on the rue de Paris and rue de la Trinité : inscription by decree of 12 February 1927 : See notice PA00107697 (maison 25-27, place Louise-de-Bettignies)
Origin and history
The house in Lille, dating from the 17th century, is a historic monument whose facades of numbers 168 and 170-170bis of the rue de Paris were transferred to Place Louise-de-Bettignies. This move, mentioned in a letter from the Regional Commission for Heritage and Sites (CRMH) dated October 29, 1985, illustrates a rare practice of preservation by relocation of architectural elements. The facades and roofs on the streets of Paris and the Trinity were protected by a decree of inscription under the Historical Monuments on 12 February 1927, highlighting their heritage value.
The original address of this monument, according to the Mérimée base, is 168 rue Pierre Mauroy (formerly rue de Paris) in Lille, in the Nord department (code Insee 59350). The approximate GPS location and available data indicate a geographical accuracy deemed "inadequate" (note 3/10). This building bears witness to the town planning of the 17th century, a period marked by the economic expansion of the city, then under Spanish and then French influence. The bourgeois houses of that time often reflected the social status of their owners, with stone or brick facades.
Today, the preserved elements of this house contribute to the architectural identity of Place Louise-de-Bettignies, an urban space named in tribute to a local figure of the Resistance during the First World War. Although practical information on public opening or current uses (visit, rental, accommodation) is not specified in the sources, its status as a Historic Monument guarantees its protection and presentation in the Lille landscape. The associated notice (PA00107697) also concerns another house located in 25-27 of the same place, suggesting a coherent architectural ensemble.
