Covered gallery: inscription by order of 25 June 1929
Origin and history
The Peyrot House is part of an iconic architectural ensemble of Mirepoix, known as the Cutlery. These houses with covered galleries, typical of medieval and post-medieval urbanism, form a sheltered passage for pedestrians. Their wooden and stone structure reflects the traditional construction techniques of the region, adapted to the commercial and social needs of the time.
The covered gallery of Peyrot House was officially listed as a historical monument by an order of 25 June 1929. This protection highlights its heritage importance, particularly for its role in preserving the historical urban fabric of Mirepoix. Located in Place Maréchal Leclerc, it illustrates the architectural evolution and spatial organization of the trading cities of southern France.
Mirepoix, located in the Ariège department in the Occitanie region, was historically a commercial and artisanal hub. The Cutlery, including the Peyrot house, served as both sales, storage and weather protection spaces. Their arrangement in arcades encouraged exchanges while structuring the public space, a model widespread in prosperous medieval cities.
