Origin and history

The house located Place de la Poterie in Bazouges-la-Perouse, Ille-et-Vilaine, is a building dating from the 1st quarter of the 17th century, more precisely from 1604. Built in large granite-cut stone apparatus, it is distinguished by its openings on two sides, its large bays with stall on the ground floor, and a corner window upstairs. Its rumped roof covered with slate, pierced with a skylight, is crowned with a sculpted cornice. This house, once owned by a wealthy merchant, still retains its stone stalls visible on two sides.

The house later became the residence of the king's attorney. Although modified over the centuries, it retains original elements such as an upstairs corner window, which appears to have served as an observation post. This window is aligned with another nearby house, known as the Pendus, located a few meters away. Listed as historical monuments since 4 January 1934, this house illustrates the civil architecture of Brittany at the beginning of the 17th century.

Today, the house is a private property, and only its facades and roof are protected. It is located in the heart of the village of Bazouges-la-Perouse, facing the monument to the dead, on a square bearing the name of the Pottery. Its present state reflects both its trading history and its role in the local administration of the modern era.
