Origin and history

This house at 46 Fontgiève Street in Clermont-Ferrand dates from the 2nd quarter of the 15th century. It is distinguished by its façade, built from fragments of the Jube of the cathedral, demolished in 1793 on the order of Couthon during the Revolution. The carved stones, sold to a ragmaker, were reused in this construction, thus preserving major architectural remains.

The original jube, built in the 15th century, was destroyed during the revolutionary demolitions. Today, only the street door and a carved bandeau remain, protected by a registration order in 1927. The general condition of the house is considered satisfactory, despite the absence of the balustrade and two arches of origin.

The location of this monument is estimated with an average accuracy (6/10), according to Merimée data. Its exact address, 46 rue Fontgiève, corresponds to the code Insee 63113, in the department of Puy-de-Dôme, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
