Internal Court and Stairs: Registration by Order of 25 June 1925

Origin and history

This house is located in Riom, listed Historic Monument, dating from the 16th century. It is distinguished by its inner courtyard, where a staircase rotating from the same period is decorated with two carved cartridges. One represents a half-marteled shield, held by two claws and surmounted by a hem with a human head and a crest in the shape of a hand armed with a sword. A banner behind the crest bears a motto. The other cartridge, composed of interlaces, frames a central medallion. These decorative elements, as well as the facade, illustrate the refined civil architecture of the Renaissance in Auvergne.

The protection of this monument concerns specifically the inner courtyard and stairway, inscribed by decree of 25 June 1925. The precise address, 8 bis rue du Commerce, places this building in the historic center of Riom, a city marked by a rich architectural heritage. The sculptural details, such as the claws or the sword, evoke symbols of power or noble belonging, typical of bourgeois or aristocratic homes of the time.

The construction periods chosen are limited to the 16th century, without mention of any subsequent modifications. The location, although specified by GPS coordinates, is considered "passible" accuracy (note 5/10), which may reflect minor uncertainties in the exact location. No information is available on opening to the public or on current use (visits, rentals, etc.).
