Origin and history
The house in Villefranche-de-Conflent, dated from the 13th century, is a historic monument whose street façade is particularly remarkable. It has two levels: on the ground floor, two arched doors separated by a tumbler, with neat trimmings and traces of brows. The interior frame is chamfreined, while on the upper floor the façade, arranged in a similar way, is marked by a horizontal strip in cellar and listel at the level of the allegories.
The space between this house and the city's primitive rampart was once wider than today, allowing access to the old markets behind the building. The nearby Spanish gate was completely rebuilt in the 18th century, thus changing the urban configuration around this house. The façade and corresponding roof were protected by a registration order in 1965, highlighting their heritage value.
Architectural details, such as arches and neat trimmings, reflect the importance of this building in the medieval urban fabric of Villefranche-de-Conflent. The house is now owned by the municipality and is an integral part of the local historical heritage, although its access to the public is not specified in the available sources.
