Chimney carved on the first floor (Box A4-1436): inscription by order of 15 October 1971
Origin and history
The house Racle sur le Treige is an emblematic building located in the commune of Granges-le-Bourg, Haute-Saône, in the Burgundy-Franche-Comté region. Built during the 4th quarter of the 16th century, this house is distinguished by its characteristic architecture of this period, although few detailed historical elements are available about it.
Only the carved chimney on the first floor of Racle House was listed as historical monuments by an order of 15 October 1971. This architectural element, probably representative of the local crafts of the time, is the main heritage testimony of this building. The house is located at 2 Impasse Racle, in a setting that reflects the traditional urban planning of the region.
At the end of the 16th century, the Haute-Saône, like other regions of Franche-Comté, was marked by a rural and artisanal economy. The houses of that time often served as housing for local peasant or bourgeois families, while sometimes sheltering commercial or artisanal activities. The carved chimney of the Racle House could indicate a relatively high social status of its occupants, reflecting some prosperity in this period of transition between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
