Origin and history
The house Reux, also called house Roux in some sources, is located on Rue des Reymonds, near the central square of Dieulefit, in the department of Drôme. This building, built between the second quarter of the eighteenth century and the first half of the nineteenth century, illustrates the civil architecture of this period in the region. Its location, in the heart of the city, suggests a local historical and social importance.
Maison Reux has been listed as a historical monument since 24 May 1988, a recognition that also includes its garden. This protection highlights the heritage value of the building, both for its architecture and for its integration into the urban landscape of Dieulefit. Available sources, such as the Merimée and Monumentum base, confirm its status as a protected monument, although the details of its occupants or its original use remain little documented.
Dieulefit, located in the Drôme, was at that time a city marked by artisanal and commercial activities. Bourgeois houses, such as the Maison Reux, often reflected the prosperity of their owners, linked to the trades of pottery, textiles or commerce. These buildings served as both a residence and a place of social representation, playing a central role in the community life of the city.
