Origin and history

This house located in La Ferté-Bernard has an architectural core whose origin dates back to the early 15th century, although this dating remains uncertain. Major transformations took place in the 16th century, reflecting the stylistic evolutions of the Renaissance, while its present façade could date from the first half of the 17th century – or be a 19th century reconstruction inspired by this period. The building thus illustrates several historical strata, mixing medieval heritage and classical influences.

Two medallions, probably added in the 19th century, adorn a posterior elevation, showing a taste for neoclassical ornamentation or a desire to restore an ancient supposed decor. The façade, the only part protected by an order of 1926, concentrates the heritage interest of the monument. Its ranking reflects an early recognition of its historical value, despite uncertainties about certain construction or restoration phases.

The address recorded in the Merimée base (14 Carnot Street) and GPS coordinates suggest a central location in the city, although the accuracy is considered "passable" (note 5/10). This position, coupled with its status as a Historical Monument, highlights its anchoring in the urban fabric of La Ferté-Bernard, a city marked by a varied architectural heritage, from the Middle Ages to the modern era.
