Origin and history

The Sauvé House is an iconic 18th century building, built for the Sauvé Barber in the city centre of Moret-sur-Loing (now Moret-Loing-et-Orvanne). Located on 1 rue du Port, on the left bank of the Loing, it is distinguished by its corbelled structure and its wooden panels, typical of regional architecture. Its strategic location, between the Porte de Paris and the Poterne de l'Abreuvoir, reflects its integration into the city's historic urban fabric.

The house suffered major damage during the explosion of the bridge during the Second World War, destroying the original building. Rebuilt and restored in 2016 by SARL A&M Heritage, it survived the floods of the same year. Today, it houses the restaurant La Poterne, offering family cuisine, while maintaining its status as a historic monument classified since May 9, 1911. This classification, in the form of a decree, protects the property as a private property.

The building is part of a larger heritage complex, including the ramparts and the Moret-sur-Loeng Bridge. Its history reflects the upheavals of the twentieth century (wars, reconstructions) as well as contemporary efforts to preserve the architectural heritage of France. The Sauvé House thus illustrates the resilience of historic buildings to the hazards of time, while adapting to modern uses such as restoration.
