Origin and history

The house located at 184 Martainville Street in Rouen is a 17th-century building. It is distinguished by its facades and roofs, which were inscribed as a Historical Monument by order of 28 April 1956. These protected elements belong to the small building forming the entrance to the aître Saint-Maclou, an emblematic site of the city.

The Saint-Maclou building, whose access is marked, is an ancient medieval cemetery transformed into a public space. The location of this monument in the historic centre of Rouen reflects the architectural and urban importance of this period. The protections put in place aim to preserve the typical architectural features of the seventeenth century, including the details of facades and roofs.
