The 15th century door lintel: inscription by decree of 17 April 1935
Origin and history
The house in La Boussagere, located in the municipality of Lhommaizé (Department of Vienna, New Aquitaine region), is a building originally dating back to the 15th century. Although the current structure seems to date mainly from the 19th century, it incorporates a remarkable architectural element: a door with a brace decorated with a coat of arms, dated from the 15th century. This element, which is now being used in a fence wall, bears witness to the historical importance of the site and its evolution throughout the centuries.
The lintel of this door, the only medieval vestige still visible, was inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of 17 April 1935. This protection highlights the heritage value of this element, typical of 15th century civil architecture in Poitou-Charentes. The absence of further details about the owners or historical uses of the house limits the understanding of its precise role, but its ranking underscores its interest in studying rural habitat and architectural re-uses.
The location of the house at 21 Rue de la Boussagere is documented with satisfactory accuracy (level 7/10). This monument illustrates the persistence of medieval traces in a more recent building, characteristic of many villages in the region. Available sources, including the Merimée and Monumentum base, confirm its protected status but do not provide information on its accessibility or contemporary uses (visit, accommodation, etc.).
