Origin and history
The Tailamé House is a historic monument located in the Carbet, Martinique. This site is known for its authenticity, homogeneity and representativeness of the Martinique architectural plan, both in its interior distribution and in its decors. These characteristics make it an emblematic example of local traditions in the area of construction and domestic development.
Classified by ministerial decree in 2009, the Tailamé House includes in its protection the entire house, its outbuildings, the garden, the courtyard with its basins, as well as the fence walls. This inscription underlines the heritage importance of the site, both for its architecture and for its landscape integration. The precise location of the monument, although noted as poor in the databases, remains anchored in the communal territory of the Carbet, in Martinique.
Traditional Martinic houses, such as the Tailamé House, often reflect the social and economic history of the island, marked by Creole, colonial and tropical influences. These homes provided a living environment for local families, while integrating practical climate-related elements, such as inner courtyards or basins for water management. Their preservation enables us to understand the lifestyles and architectural know-how of the region.
