Origin and history
The Montelly Houses, located in Salon-la-Tour en Corrèze, are an architectural ensemble linked to the Order of Malta. They were part of the preceptory of the Temple of Ayen and originally included a house built in 1519, a hospital built in 1622 and remodeled between 1700 and 1703, and a chapel. The latter, destroyed in 1622, was rebuilt in 1641 but has now disappeared, just like the hospital. Only the main house with its outbuildings remains, classified as Historical Monuments since 1990.
The house preserves remarkable elements such as painted chimneys, remains of decorations on the floor and a panelled cupboard. These details bear witness to the historic significance of the site, which was once a reception and care centre under the authority of the Hospitallers of St John of Jerusalem, better known as the Order of Malta. The site, although partially disappeared, remains an architectural and religious testimony of the region.
The whole was located in the hamlet of Saint-Georges, as indicated by the cadastre (section BO, parcel 43). Its registration in 1990 helped preserve this heritage, although its exact location is considered satisfactory (note 6/10) according to the heritage databases. No information is available on its current accessibility (visits, accommodation or events).
