Cave under the two houses (Case AE 105): inscription by decree of 9 July 1926
Origin and history
The houses in Moret-Loing-et-Orvanne, in the Seine-et-Marne department, date from the 12th century. Their particularity lies in their cellar, classified as Historic Monument by decree of 9 July 1926. These cellars, located below the two houses (cadastre AE 105), testify to the medieval civil architecture of the region, although their precise location is considered "a priori satisfactory" with a note of 6/10.
In the 12th century, Moret-sur-Loing (now integrated with Moret-Loing-et-Orvanne) was a dynamic village, marked by artisanal and commercial activities linked to its strategic position near the Loing River. The vaulted cellar houses, like these, often served as storage places for food or goods, reflecting the local economic importance. Their preservation offers a rare example of medieval habitat in Île-de-France.
The exact address of the houses is indicated as the Grande-Rue (47, 49) or 49 Rue Grande, in the historic center of Moret-sur-Loeng. Their status as Historic Monument only concerns the cellar, highlighting its heritage interest despite the lack of details about the current state of the upper parts. No information is available on their accessibility to the public or their contemporary use.
