Origin and history
The Hotel de Malestroit found its origins in the Middle Ages as a seigneurial mansion of the fief of Malestroit. In 1426, Jean de Malestroit, then bishop of Nantes, offered him to the White Mantle religious. During the reign of Charles VI, the latter abandoned the Daughters-God, a female religious community. The building fell into ruins as early as 1472, before being rebuilt in the 18th century in its present state.
The monument incorporates architectural elements of reuse, including a column and frieze from the Château des Tuileries in Paris, destroyed by fire in 1871. After centuries of turbulent history, the hotel was restored and inaugurated in 1976 to host the Bry-sur-Marne initiative union. Its facades and roofs were protected by a registration order in 1975.
Today owned by the municipality, the Hotel de Malestroit bears witness to architectural transformations and heritage reuses. Its location on the Grande-Rue de Bry-sur-Marne, in Val-de-Marne, makes it a local historic landmark. The accuracy of its location is considered satisfactory (note 7/10), and its remains recall both its medieval past and its links to Parisian history.
