Origin and history
The Manecantery of Notre-Dame du Puy-en-Velay, classified as Historic Monument, preserves Gothic remains visible in the kitchen room and the adjacent turret. These elements, which are part of a more recent structure, reflect an old occupation of the site. The entrance door, dating from the 16th-17th centuries, has doric pilasters and a fragmented pediment, suggesting a richer original decoration, probably decorated with the coat of arms of the Saint-Vidal family, then owner or sponsor.
A cylindrical turret, accessible from the third floor, rests on a corbellation supported by tubes and a discharge arch. It leads to an oratory where traces of murals remain, evidence of both a residential and a spiritual vocation. The whole, now owned by an association, illustrates the architectural evolution of the site, between domestic functions (kitchen, hotel) and religious (oratory), typical of the ecclesiastical buildings of the modern era.
Registration for the inventory of Historic Monuments in 2015 concerns the hotel of Saint-Vidal in its entirety, including Gothic elements and Renaissance additions. The location, in the heart of the cloister of Notre-Dame (rue du Cloître and 3 Montée du Cloître), reinforces its anchoring in the religious and urban heritage of Puy-en-Velay. Sources refer to "passible" geographic accuracy (note 5/10), possibly reflecting uncertainties about the exact boundaries of the historic site.
