Origin and history

The Ecajeul Manor House, also known as the Basseville Fort, is a house built in the late 15th or early 16th century. It stands on the former town of Écajeul, now integrated in Mézidon Valley of Auge, Calvados. This building, in small flat apparatus and flanked by a polygonal turret, illustrates the defensive and residential architecture of the period. Its classification as historical monuments, by order of 25 September 1930, underlines its heritage importance.

Since 2000, the mansion has belonged to the Lacourt family. It is distinguished by its high house, its corner links and its half-timbered elements. A trilobed skylight adorns its roof, while a watchtower crowns the turret, recalling its past use. Although located near the village of Mesnil-Mauger, its exact location, 2 km southwest, reinforces its isolated and strategic character.

Available sources, such as Wikipedia and Monumentum, confirm its status as a protected historical monument. The mansion is now a private property, and its exact address, 803 Route du Fort Basseville, allows to locate it in the new municipality of Mézidon Vallée d'Auge. Its architecture and history make it a remarkable testimony to the Austrian heritage, highlighted by works such as Charme Discrete des manoirs du Pays d'Auge by Philippe Déterville.
