Origin and history

The Manor House of Barville is a building located in Perche en Nocé, in the department of Orne in Normandy. Built in the late 17th and 18th centuries, it is built around an older 16th century building. This mixture of epochs gives the place a hybrid architectural character, where Renaissance and classical elements overlap. The facades, roofs, interior and exterior staircases, as well as the commons and the garden, were protected by an inscription to historical monuments in 1994.

The architecture of the mansion is distinguished by its concern for symmetry, illustrated in particular by trompe-l'oeil windows. These details, added to the convergent double-fly staircases and balusters, reflect the aesthetic cannons of the 17th and 18th centuries. The site also includes outbuildings and a walled garden, typical of the seigneurial houses of the region. The accuracy of its location remains approximate, with an address recorded at the Rue Georges Gouget in Nocé.

The mansion is part of the Orne heritage, an area marked by the influence of local noble and bourgeois families. At that time, houses like Barville served as both a residence and a symbol of power, while playing a role in the economic and social organization of the Perch. Their preservation today bears witness to the architectural and cultural heritage of Lower Normandy, integrated since 2016 in the Normandy region.
