Origin and history
The Beaupré mansion, located in Veigné in Indre-et-Loire, is a building built around 1640 by a family from Amboise. Mentioned for the first time in 1689, it consists of a main house of the seventeenth century and two wings housing the commons, added later. These buildings form a courtyard closed to the north by a wall erected in 1855. The house body, without floors, has a mansard-lighted Mansart attic, while the exterior staircases, especially that of the north facade, come from a tourist mansion in the Second Empire, now destroyed.
The manor house, a former fief dependent on the castle of Artigny, became the property of the perfumer François Coty in 1912, until his death. Inside, a central wooden staircase with balusters and monumental stone chimneys, dated from the seventeenth century, are preserved. The terminals of the alleys of the garden were transferred from Menars Castle. Partly inscribed in historical monuments since February 6, 1991, the manor house illustrates the rural architecture of Tourangelle and its evolution throughout the centuries.
Protected elements include facades (excluding exterior stairs), roof, interior staircase and ground floor fireplaces. The site, still linked to local history, bears witness to architectural changes and changes in owners, including its association with the domain of Artigny and the influence of François Coty, a major figure in the perfume industry at the beginning of the 20th century.
