Origin and history
Brulon Manor House, located in Restigné in the department of Indre-et-Loire, is a 16th-century building listed as a historical monument since June 18, 1962. This house, a former fief dependent on the Benais chestnut, is distinguished by its typical Renaissance architecture, with a floor on the ground floor and an illuminated peak of skylights. The south façade is accompanied by a hexagonal tower with a stone-vised staircase, a characteristic element of the seigneurial residences of the time.
Inside, the first floor retains traces of civil pictorial decoration probably dating from the 16th century. Two rooms are equipped with oblique hood chimneys, one of which features a coat decorated with rinceaux and painted foliage. The west room on the first floor houses a fresco depicting trees surrounding animals and a unique figurative scene, reflecting the artistic refinement of the period.
The manor house, whose facades, roofs and murals have been protected since 1962, illustrates the residential architecture of the nobility under the Renaissance. Its inscription in the title of historical monuments underscores its heritage value, both for its building and for its interior decorations, rare examples of civil murals preserved in the Centre-Val de Loire.
