Origin and history
Caudemone Manor House is a building located in the commune of La Chapelle-Haute-Grue, Normandy. This monument, whose exact origin is not specified in the sources, is distinguished by its architecture and partial inscription in the historical monuments. It is 800 metres southwest of the village, near the local church, in a typical rural setting of Calvados.
The protection of the manor house was undertaken in two stages: the turret was registered on 26 December 1928, while the entrance pavilions and the pigeon house were added to this protection on 11 April 1947. These inscriptions reflect the heritage value of the building, although its detailed history and potential owners or builders are not documented in available sources.
Norman manors, such as Caudemone, were often seigneurial or agricultural residences, playing a central role in the local organisation. They served as a place of life, land management and sometimes as a symbol of power for family owners. In Calvados, these buildings reflect the rural and architectural history of the region, marked by medieval and post-medieval influences.
