Origin and history

Gennetay Manor House is an iconic 16th and 17th century building located in the municipality of Morannes-sur-Sarthe-Daumeray, Maine-et-Loire. This monument, typical of the seigneurial architecture of the region, is distinguished by the presence of moat surrounding it, a defensive and aesthetic element common at that time. Its designation as historic monuments in 1987 reflects its heritage importance and the desire to preserve this local heritage.

The region of the Pays de la Loire, and more particularly Anjou, was at this time marked by a rural and seigneurial society. The mansions, like Gennetay, served as residences for the noble or bourgeois local families, while playing an economic and social role in the organization of the surrounding lands. These buildings often reflected the status of their owners and were involved in the structuring of the territory, between farming and local authority.

The inscription of the Gennetay mansion in 1987, by ministerial decree, concerns all buildings as well as moats, highlighting the architectural and historical interest of the site. Available data, from sources such as Wikipedia and Monumentum, confirm its membership of the protected heritage of Maine-et-Loire, without providing details about its owners or its precise use throughout the centuries. The approximate location, noted as "passable" (level 5), would locate the mansion at the 5019 Les Grands Gennetays, based on recorded GPS coordinates.
