Origin and history
Le Manoir de la Caillerie is a 17th-century mansion located in Bayeux, Calvados department, Normandy. Built in 1647, it illustrates the manorial architecture typical of the region, with a portal comparable to those of the manors of Douville (Mandeville-en-Bessin) and Longeau (Crouay). Its style reflects the local influences of the time, mixing agricultural functionality and seigneurial prestige.
The mansion has been listed as historic monuments since November 10, 1928, recognizing its heritage value. Located at 56 rue Saint-Patrice, west of the Bayeux agglomeration, it bears witness to the rural and aristocratic history of Lower Normandy. The sources, such as the works of Arcisse de Caumont (1857), underline its importance in the monumental landscape of Calvados.
Although the details of its historical occupants are rare, the mansion embodies the way of life of the local elites in the seventeenth century, a period marked by the post-war reconstruction of Religion and the affirmation of seigneurial power. Its portal, a remarkable architectural element, suggests links with other houses in the region, reflecting cultural and artisanal exchanges between noble and bourgeois families of the time.
