Origin and history

The manor house of the Chaume, located in the commune of Cervon (Nevere, Burgundy-Franche-Comté), is a 15th century rectangular building, typical of late medieval architecture. It is distinguished by its roof of mechanical tiles, its beaded bays surmounted by arches in braid, and its two Gothic chimneys decorated with heraldic decorations of the 1500s. These elements, as well as the original huisseries and a chevron frame, underline its exceptional heritage interest.

The family of La Chaume, owner of fiefs in the Corbigny region, built this mansion in the 15th century. In the 17th century, the estate passed into the hands of Georges de Bony, then to Vauban in 1690, marking its anchor in local history. A miraculous legend, not detailed in the sources, adds a poetic dimension to this place full of history.

Ranked a historic monument by decree of November 30, 2010, the manor house is fully protected, including its monumental fireplaces and its period carpentry. Its state of conservation, with original wood vantals and ground ties, makes it a rare testimony of the craftsmanship and architecture of the nascent Renaissance in Burgundy.

The available sources (Wikipedia, Monumentum) confirm its regional importance, placing it among the remarkable historic castles and monuments of Nièvre. Its precise address, 1 La Chaume à Cervon, and its Insee code (58047) allow to locate it with an accuracy deemed satisfactory (level 6/10).
