Origin and history
The Manor House of La Faverie is an emblematic building located in Beaumont-Pied-de-Bœuf, in the Sarthe department, in the Pays de la Loire region. Built in the 17th century, this mansion is a typical example of the rural architecture of this period, marked by the emergence of seigneurial or bourgeois residences outside of the large urban centres. Its designation as historic monuments in 1926 was a testament to its heritage importance and the desire to preserve this local heritage.
The 17th century in Sarthe was a period of transition between the disturbances of the Wars of Religion and a relative stability under royal authority. Manor houses, such as that of La Faverie, were often places of residence for wealthy families, while playing an economic and social role in the surrounding countryside. These buildings also reflect the evolution of lifestyles, combining residential, agricultural and sometimes defensive functions, although this latter dimension was less marked at that time.
The faverie mansion was officially recognized for its historical and architectural value by a registration order dated 6 January 1926. This legal protection ensures the preservation of its original characteristics, while offering a material testimony of local history. Today, it is one of the historical monuments of the Sarthe, alongside other remarkable buildings in the region.
