Origin and history
The manor house of the Grolière is a gentilhommière built in the early 17th century, typical of constructions of this kind in Bourbonnais. Located in Ygrande in the Allier department, it consists of a rectangular house body topped by one floor, with a circular tower protruding. The facades retain original architectural elements, such as low arch lintels and a cartridge carved from the coat of arms of the De Bron and Saint-Hilaire families.
The doors and windows of the mansion have kept traces of their ancient frames, some dating back to the seventeenth century. Nearby, a square dovecote and a historic well complete the whole. The monument was inscribed in the Historic Monuments in 1971 for its facades and roofs, testifying to its heritage importance.
The armored cartridge and 18th-century carpentry illustrate the evolution of the mansion throughout the centuries. The circular tower, decorated with carved coats of arms, reinforces its seigneurial character. This site reflects the aristocratic rural architecture of the modern era in Auvergne-Bourbonnais.
