Origin and history
The Jobardière mansion, located in Saint-Martin-du-Limet in the department of Mayenne, is a remarkable example of Second Renaissance architecture. Its main home, built in the second half of the sixteenth century, is accompanied by an older wing, probably dating from the fourteenth century. This mansion was developed from a 12th century house-tour, enlarged over the centuries, including the addition of the Old House in the 14th century and the Grand House in the Renaissance. The interior preserves original elements, such as the huisseries and their locks, as well as careful architectural details (lucarns, shingles, cornice).
Ranked Historic Monument by order of 3 March 1997, the mansion includes in its protection the house, its outbuildings and moats. The sources mention an exceptional quality of his large work, typical of the seigneurial residences of the time. Although its precise history and original owners are not detailed in the available documents, its architectural evolution reflects the transformation of noble habitats between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
The commune of Saint-Martin-du-Limet, attached to the Mayenne in the Pays de la Loire region, houses this heritage as a witness to local dynamics. In the Renaissance, manor houses such as the Jubardière served as administrative and residential centres for the aristocracy or the Earth bourgeoisie, playing a key role in the economic and social organization of the countryside. Their preservation now offers an overview of lifestyles and construction techniques then.
