Origin and history
The Poissonnière mansion, located in Saint-Ouen-en-Belin in the Sarthe, is a building whose origins date back to at least the fourteenth century. The place is mentioned as early as 1270 under the name Poissonneria, and tithes associated with this surname appear in cartulars as early as 1260. Originally, it was a seigneurial fief of the parish, belonging to the Cordeau family in the 14th century, before moving into the Moreau family in 1393 by the marriage of Jeanne Cordeau with Olivier I Moreau. The estate remained in this line for almost four centuries.
The mansion consists of a double platform surrounded by moat: the first supports the house and an adjoining chapel, while the second once housed the commons, a tower and a dovecote. Although its main construction was associated with the 15th century, architectural elements could date back to the 14th century. Ranked a historic monument by decree of 9 November 1977, it illustrates the typical organization of the local seigneuries of the medieval and modern era.
Available sources, including Wikipedia and Monumentum, confirm its status as a Historical Monument and specify its exact address: 5094 La Poissonnière, in the commune of Saint-Ouen-en-Belin (code Insee 72306). The site is referenced in the Merimée database, but the practical information about its current visit or use (rent, guest rooms) is not detailed in the documents consulted.
