Fronts and roofs (Box ZL 29): inscription by decree of 4 July 1972
Origin and history
The manor house of La Roche-de-Gennes is a medieval building located in the commune of Vou, in Indre-et-Loire. Built in the 15th century, it is distinguished by its characteristic architecture, with a high rectangular building whose steep gables are surmounted by a round stone. This type of construction reflects the techniques and style of the time in Touraine, an area marked by strong seigneurial and agricultural activity.
The châtellenie de la Roche-de-Gennes, originally dependent on the château de Loches, was erected in 1569, illustrating its importance in the local feudal hierarchy. The north facade of the mansion is decorated with a polygonal staircase tower, with a Gothic door, an architectural element emblematic of this period. The building, partially protected, was listed as a historic monument on July 4, 1972, recognizing its heritage value.
The facades and roofs of the mansion, specified in the inscription order, constitute the protected elements of the monument. It is part of a larger historical landscape, linked to the Touraine and its medieval architectural heritage. The location of the mansion, although documented, remains approximate according to available sources, with an accuracy assessed as "a priori satisfactory".
