Origin and history

The Manor House of the Singerie, also known as the Cigogne, is a 17th century building located in Saint-Avertin, in the department of Indre-et-Loire, in the Centre-Val de Loire region. This mansion is distinguished by its architecture, including a main house with facades adorned with a triangular pediment and a wrought iron balcony, as well as servitude buildings accompanied by low turrets. A courtyard, bounded by a wall and a gate between two pillars, completes the whole, while a vast park extends south of the estate.

Originally, the estate belonged to the priest Jean-Baptiste Cossard, emigrated during the Revolution, which led to the sale of the estate as a national good in 1793. In the 18th century, the mansion was owned by the seminary of Tours. The facades, roofs, the north wall, the garden gate, and the park were listed as historic monuments by order of August 18, 1950, recognizing their heritage value.

The main house, of elongated shape, has a central span marked by a triangular pediment, while the servitude buildings, arranged in perpendicular wings, frame the entrance courtyard. These architectural elements, as well as the park, illustrate the style and uses of the manor houses of this time in Touraine. The site is now listed in the Mérimée base and located at 18 rue des Cigognes in Saint-Avertin.
