Origin and history

The Berthaisières mansion, located in Cravant-les-Côteaux (Indre-et-Loire), is a second half of the 16th century building marked by defensive and decorative elements characteristic of the Renaissance. Its monumental portal, dated from 1574 (although this date seems to be repressed), includes a carriage door in basket handle and a pedestrian door in the middle of the hanger surmounted by a triangular pediment. A round road on mâchicoulis, flanked by two turrets, crowned together, while remains of an old tower and a scallop testify to earlier changes. The house, accessible by a polygonal staircase tower made of cut stone, has undergone subsequent modifications (levels, bays, distribution), but retains its original stone screw.

The manor house has been listed for historical monuments since 6 March 1947, only for its gate (cadaster F 13). The parish registers first mentioned Berthaisières in 1656, almost a century after its alleged construction. The building, made of coated stoneware and slate, combines long-paned roofs and croupes (logis) with a polygonal roof (scaling tower). Although deeply transformed over time, it illustrates the evolution of rural manors between Renaissance and modern times, combining residential functions and prestige symbols.

No information is available on original owners or artisans who worked on its construction. The sources (Wikipedia, Monumentum) highlight its architectural characteristics and its partial ranking. The location, noted as "passable" (precision 5/10), would place the mansion at 77 Les Berthaisières, but without exact geographical confirmation. The site does not appear to be systematically open to the visit, and its current use (rent, guest rooms) is not documented.
