Origin and history
The Claies mansion is an emblematic building located in Asnières-sur-Vègre, in the current Sarthe department ( Pays de la Loire region). Built in the late 15th century, this house is a typical example of the civil architecture of the late medieval period in the historical region of Maine. Its history is marked by major transformations, including the mutilations suffered in the 1930s, which altered its original structure.
The restoration of the manor house was subsequently undertaken, employing original architectural elements reassembled in situ. This intervention has preserved some of its authenticity, despite previous damage. The monument was officially listed as a historic monument on 23 May 1996, recognizing its heritage value and importance to the local heritage.
Today, the Claies Manor House bears witness to the constructive techniques of the late Middle Ages, while illustrating the challenges of preserving historic buildings. Its inscription in the Mérimée base and its precise location (5004 Les Claies, 72430 Asnières-sur-Vègre) make it a site referenced for architectural studies and heritage visits in Sarthe. No information is available about its opening to the public or its current uses (guest rooms, rental, etc.).
