Manoir, with all its interior decoration (Case ZD 45): inscription by decree of 31 March 1992

Origin and history

Le manoir des Rosiers is a 16th century mansion located in the commune of Réveillon, in the department of Orne, Normandy. Built at Les Rosiers, it is distinguished by its modest but refined architecture, marked by an octagonal tower with a staircase. This type of construction reflects the rise of defensive manors in the Perch between the end of the Hundred Years War and the Wars of Religion, combining residential function and protective elements such as towers or enclosures.

The present building dates precisely from the first half of the 16th century, a period of reconstruction and relative stabilization after medieval conflicts. Its interior decor, including a painted fireplace and workworked huisseries, bears witness to the care given to aesthetics despite its small dimensions. These features make it a representative example of the rural seigneurial habitat of the time, combining utility and prestige.

Ranked as historic monuments since 31 March 1992, the mansion is protected for its architecture and all its interior decoration. This official recognition underlines its heritage importance, both for its state of conservation and for its illustration of local constructive and artistic techniques. The Merimée base lists it under ZD 45, confirming its anchoring in the Norman historical landscape.

The Perche region, to which Revelion belongs, was then marked by a rural economy and a society organized around the Earth's nobility. The manors, like that of the Rosiers, served as administrative and symbolic centers for the local lords, while embodying their power through defensive or decorative architectural elements. Their multiplication in the 16th century reflects a period of transition between feudality and Renaissance, where security remains a major concern.

No information is available about original owners or artisans who have worked on the site. The sources mention only its inscription to the heritage and its precise location (140 Les Rosiers, 61400 Réveillon), without details on its current use (visits, accommodation, etc.).
